We Love Our Children!

All babies and children at our church are welcome members of our church family.  We want to know and greet them by name and honor their feelings as they make the separation from parents to the child care or Sunday school setting.  We are glad to see them each week!  Our educational theme is “to encourage learning for the purpose of spiritual growth.”  Children experience spiritual development as surely and as unconsciously as they develop physically, socially and intellectually.  Our task is to meet them where they are and welcome them lovingly to the play, Bible stories or activities of the day. If children experience loving acceptance at church, they will trust and be ready to embrace spirituality as they grow.  We also provide leadership opportunities for children in worship through singing in choir, reading scripture and serving as ushers from time to time.  Children are always welcome in worship as well as Sunday school.

Living In Christ, Serving In Love In Our Educational Ministries

Our teaching staff consists of persons who are active in Brecksville UMC for at least six months and volunteer their time in the education ministry.  Through the 8th grade, two teachers are present in the classroom each Sunday.  In 9th -12th grades it is permissible for one adult to teach alone.

We begin our academic year for all age levels in September and continue through the first Sunday in June.  There is no class for 1st – 6th graders on the Sundays of Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Memorial Day Sunday or Labor Day Sunday.

We offer special events for children and families throughout the year!  All events are published in our church newsletter, The Good Word, in advance.

Vacation Bible School Date Change!

 We have a new opportunity to be in ministry to all ages in our church family this summer through our Family Faith Nights, a new twist to Vacation Bible School.  The physical renovations occurring in our building in the next few months will bring many updates and beauty to our space and have spurred the Education Committee and church staff to think creatively about VBS this year.  I always think creativity is a good thing – whenever and where ever it bubbles up.  After careful consideration, we have decided to move the VBS dates from June to August.  We will also be offering an evening program this time that will be geared to families and individuals of all ages! 

Details will be coming soon, but for now please mark the dates and times below on your summer calendar, no matter whether you are 4, 15 or 80 years old – we hope you’ll take part in some way!  You can be a volunteer leader in some way or simply come as a participant.  If you are interested in helping in any way or in joining the VBS planning team, please talk with Betsy Wooster, Joy McGuire, Lisa Drew or Pastor Karen!
