We Love Our Children!

All babies and children at our church are welcome members of our church family.  We want to know and greet them by name and honor their feelings as they make the separation from parents to the child care or Sunday school setting.  We are glad to see them each week!  Our educational theme is “to encourage learning for the purpose of spiritual growth.”  Children experience spiritual development as surely and as unconsciously as they develop physically, socially and intellectually.  Our task is to meet them where they are and welcome them lovingly to the play, Bible stories or activities of the day. If children experience loving acceptance at church, they will trust and be ready to embrace spirituality as they grow.  We also provide leadership opportunities for children in worship through singing in choir, reading scripture and serving as ushers from time to time.  Children are always welcome in worship as well as Sunday school.

Living In Christ, Serving In Love In Our Educational Ministries

Our teaching staff consists of persons who are active in Brecksville UMC for at least six months and volunteer their time in the education ministry.  Through the 8th grade, two teachers are present in the classroom each Sunday.  In 9th -12th grades it is permissible for one adult to teach alone.

We begin our academic year for all age levels in September and continue through the first Sunday in June.  There is no class for 1st – 5th graders on the Sundays of Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Memorial Day Sunday or Labor Day Sunday.

We offer special events for children and families throughout the year!  All events are published in our church newsletter, The Good Word, in advance.

Blessed to Have Fresh Water
The focus of the VBS Mission project this year was collecting money to eventually purchase a well for the Camphor Mission in Liberia.  We talked about water and water filtration during the science sessions in VBS.  We were able to reflect on how blessed we are to have clean fresh water come out of our tap anytime we desire.  We looked at maps and a globe to see areas of the world which do not share in this abundance of fresh, potable water.
In the past few years the United Methodist Church has taken a strong interest in helping the people of Liberia secure the basic necessities for life, including safe, potable drinking water.  Please have a conversation with your family at the dinner table and prayerfully consider what you would be willing and able to donate to this worthy cause.  If you are able to donate, please mark your envelope “Blessed to have Fresh Water”.  Checks can be made payable to Brecksville United Methodist Church.  We will keep you updated on the progress of the collection.

VBS Was a Galactic Blast!
What a great time we all had at VBS this year!  So many adult and youth volunteers came forward to make this an enjoyable week for the children.  We played games, sang songs, had spacey snacks, made crafts and learned some science while we built stronger personal relationships with God.  The Middle Schoolers met in the park and reflected on the beauty of God’s natural world and our duty to be good stewards of the land.  More than 60 kids took part in VBS this year and, I think all would agree, it was a “blast”.  - Jenny Gee

Rally Day 2010
Calling all parents! On Sundays, August 29 and September 5 we will have tables set up in the Narthex.  Stop by before or after service to update your child’s information so we can get everything ready for Sunday School.  Remember ALL new classes, for ALL ages, start on September 12.
