Christian Education Offerings: Lenten Studies

Take a fresh look at waiting and the possibilities for our spirits which come with waiting by joining in a Lenten study of the book, Seven Spiritual Gifts of Waiting.  You may choose to study the book on your own as a Lenten discipline as well.  All these classes will be at the church.  The series will also be available as a drop-in class in the sanctuary on Sunday mornings.  The cost of the book is $10.00.

We Love Our Children!

All babies and children at our church are welcome members of our church family.  We want to know and greet them by name and honor their feelings as they make the separation from parents to the child care or Sunday school setting.  We are glad to see them each week!  Our educational theme is “to encourage learning for the purpose of spiritual growth.”  Children experience spiritual development as surely and as unconsciously as they develop physically, socially and intellectually.  Our task is to meet them where they are and welcome them lovingly to the play, Bible stories or activities of the day. If children experience loving acceptance at church, they will trust and be ready to embrace spirituality as they grow.  We also provide leadership opportunities for children in worship through singing in choir, reading scripture and serving as ushers from time to time.  Children are always welcome in worship as well as Sunday school.

Living In Christ, Serving In Love In Our Educational Ministries

Our teaching staff consists of persons who are active in Brecksville UMC for at least six months and volunteer their time in the education ministry.  Through the 8th grade, two teachers are present in the classroom each Sunday.  In 9th -12th grades it is permissible for one adult to teach alone.

We begin our academic year for all age levels in September and continue through the first Sunday in June.  There is no class for 1st – 5th graders on the Sundays of Christmas, New Year’s, Easter, Memorial Day Sunday or Labor Day Sunday.

We offer special events for children and families throughout the year!  All events are published in our church newsletter, The Good Word, in advance.

The Second Time Around
David Monseau
Brecksville United Methodist church member David Monseau has written a book titled "The Second Time Around," a first hand account of heart surgery, recovery, rehabilitation and a brighter future. This compelling book describes Dave's experience, capturing the trauma of both patient and family as they journey through the medical maze of life threatening surgery. The book raises ones awareness and understanding of the patient experience. His story helps us to understand all that he was going through and how he has adapted to the outcome.

Dave Monseau, a member of Brecksville United Methodist Church, is not your typical author. A businessman by career, an educator by experience and a storyteller by avocation, his writing style is conversational. He is sitting right across from you as you read his adventure. You feel his confusion, his frustration, and finally his acceptance of his reality. Dave shares with you, as only a patient and a survivor can, the revelations of his journey and the joy of seeing a bright future, where previously there was only concern and trauma.

Dave is a graduate of Wittenberg University, with postgraduate degrees from the Universities of West Virginia and Michigan. If you are interesting in purchasing a copy, you can call Dave directly at 440 838 8259 or e-mail him at dmonseau@roadrunner.com.  A portion of sales to church members will be donated to the church capital fund.
