Reverend Karen McCartney Oehl to become next pastor at BUMC--June 26
Reverend Oehl was reared in a United Methodist parsonage as her father Reverend Dr. Bill McCartney served churches in western Pennsylvania and East Ohio (Epworth Euclid UMC, 1971-1981, Canton District Superintendent, 1981-1987). Pastor Oehl attended high school in Shaker Heights and graduated from the College of Wooster in 1981 with a degree in education. She taught at Hathaway Brown School before receiving her call to ministry. While attending the Methodist Theological School in Ohio, she worked at the United Methodist Church of Wooster as Adult Ministries Director (1992-1996). Since her graduation from seminary in 1996, she has served the Marshallville/Easton UMC 1996-2002 and the Apple Creek UMC, 2002 - present.
Pastor Oehl is married to Frank Christopher Oehl, an attorney in private practice and Assistant Prosecutor, Holmes County. They have two daughters, Kirsten Elaine Oehl, a freshman at Green Mountain College, Vermont, and Maren Elizabeth Oehl, a high school sophomore.
Reverend Oehl has served in many capacities within the East Ohio Conference and in the educational field in communities where she has lived.
Her leadership will be instrumental in moving Brecksville Church to the next level of ministry and mission in the service of Christ.
Each member of the congregation is encouraged to keep Reverend Oehl and her family in daily prayer as they transition from their ministry in Apple Creek to Brecksville.
