A NEW MID-WEEK BIBLE STUDY
Wednesdays at 7 pm  February 22 through April 12*
with Pastor Clark in the Parlor

Reinvigorate and deepen your understanding of the Bible with this new mid-week study with Pastor Clark.

In each Animate: Bible session, we will watch a video featuring a leading voice from the Christian faith, spend time on personal reflection and journaling, and share ideas with the group.
Each participant will receive a beautifully illustrated Bible Journal which provides space for reflection and prayer.

Be a part of it.  Reserve a copy of the Bible Journal by contacting the church office.

The cost of the journal is $15.  You can pay today or bring payment to the first class.  If you are not able to afford the book right now,  the church Corinthian Fund can cover your cost!

*No Bible Study on March 1, Ash Wednesday

Animate: Bible Sessions

CANNON: MINING FOR THE WORD with ERIC ELNES
How did these 66 cultural history lessons, collections of poems, family genograms, allegorical stories and community letters—all gathered from sources that stretch across tie and place—become the Bible?

HISTORY: PARCHMENT TO PIXEL with PHYLLIS TICKLE
Does the way we access the bible change the way we interpret the Bible?

TESTAMENTS: ONE STORY, TWO PARTS with RACHEL HELD EVANS
What do we do with the Old Testament? Violence, strange laws, the treatment of women.  How do we make sense of the images of an angry God with the God of love? How do we find the sweet spot between the Law of Moses and the Grace of Jesus?

GOSPELS: UNEXPECTED GOOD NEWS with NADIA BOLZ-WEBER
We know the four Gospels tell the story of Jesus. But why do they tell different stories?

GENRE: RHYTHMN OF THE TEXT with JOSE MORALES
Poetry, history, songs, letters, prophecies, even dreams—this is the stuff the Bible is made of.  So why do we struggle to make sense of the various genres of biblical literature?

INTERPRETATION: SCRIPTURE READS US with WILL WILLIMON
There are the words on the page and then there are the words behind the words—the history, the context, the intention of the author.  So is it easy to understand the Bible or not?

GRACE: LOVE IS THE BOTTOM LINE with JAY BAKKER
How do you love a book that’s caused you nothing but pain? Jay Bakker offers a new vision of the Bible for all those who have been hurt by well-meaning Christians, who have suffered at the hands of those who use the Bible to wound, or who have doubted there’s anything worth reading in a book that has brought about so much struggle.
