Spiritual Direction, Week of June 23
I hope you enjoyed praying scripture surrounding the hymn Make Me a Channel of Your Peace last week.  I found myself singing the song over and over and enjoyed how I was reminded of my time spent with God in prayer earlier in the day.  Since this was meaningful to me I decided to think about another song that ‘just gets stuck in my head’ and set up our prayer prompts around it this week.  When was the last time you saw Godspell?  I love the music and thought this week we could focus our prayer time on All Good Gifts.

Need a refresher of how it goes?  Click this link. VBS

Day 1: Pray the lyrics aloud and afterward talk with God about the gifts you are most grateful for.

All Good Gifts (by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz)

We plow the fields and scatter the good seed on the land.

But it is fed and watered by God’s almighty hand.

He sends us snow in winter, the warmth to swell the grain...

The breezes and the sunshine, and soft refreshing rain...

All good gifts around us

Are sent from Heaven above

Then thank the Lord, thank the Lord for all his love...

We thank thee then, O Father, for all things bright and good,

The seedtime and the harvest, our life, our health, our food,

No gifts have we to offer for all thy love imparts

But that which thou desirest, our humble thankful hearts!

All good gifts around us

Are sent from Heaven above.

So thank the Lord, thank the Lord for all his love.

I really want to thank you Lord!

All good gifts around us

Are sent from Heaven above.

Then thank the Lord, oh thank the Lord for all his love.

Day 2:  Pray Matthew 6: 25-30 and 7: 7-11.  We all have situations that cause us to worry.  As you are with God today think about a time you worried greatly but neglected to let God sit with you in that worry.  What is causing you concern today?  Open your heart to God and share your worries.

Day 3:  Pray Psalm 65.  What sights of this earth have awed you?

Day 4:  Pray 2 Corinthians 9: 10-15.  As you reflect on the many blessings in your life, think about how those blessings have moved you toward offering more of yourself, your skills, talents and gifts to others.

Day 5: Pray Isaiah 42: 5-12.  Reflect on how you have lifted a shout of praise to God for all your ‘good gifts’.

Day 6: Pray Psalm 23.  There are times when we need rest and comfort.  Where in your life do you recognize your need to rest in God’s presence?

Day 7: Pray Genesis 1.  Close your eyes and travel in your mind to some of the most remarkable and amazing places you have ever visited.  Think, also, of the everyday miracles that surround you.  Rest in the assurance that God’s creation is good and you are very good… respond to God with “a humble thankful heart”

Have a wonderful week!
