Worship Services

Sundays Morning Services

When you enter Brecksville United Methodist Church, you find a warm and welcoming congregation worshiping God together in an open and beautiful Sanctuary. We offer two worship services every Sunday morning. Communion is shared on the first Sunday of the month throughout the year.

8:45 am Contemporary Service (September - May)

The Contemporary Service begins with lively songs of worship, led by our band and singers of all ages. We have a drummer, guitar players, bass and piano, but we’re always open to new sounds and ideas! This service welcomes a variety of gifts and talents, special music, men’s and women’s ensembles, and is even visited by organ and handbell choir from time to time.

11:15 am Traditional Service(September - May)

Our Traditional Service incorporates hymns from the United Methodist Hymnal and The Faith We Sing, and is led by our Chancel Choir. Our organist provides the prelude and postlude each week. This service also welcomes variety and periodically includes music from our men’s and women’s ensembles and handbell choir.

Summer Worship Times (June through early September)

Summer brings a unique worship opportunity - church on the lawn! On Sunday mornings, weather permitting, we gather on the front lawn of the church for 8:30 outdoor worship. This casual, come-as-you-are service includes all the important elements of worship in a beautiful, outdoor setting. If you love to start the day early, or love the outdoors, this service is for you! For our 10:00 worship service, we gather in the Sanctuary. This service blends the contemporary and traditional, and features our worship band and singers as well as elements of traditional worship including hymns and the organ.

Nursery Care and Sprouts

Nursery Care is available during worship services (and the Education Hour) in our Nursery located near the Sanctuary. Nursery care allows you to focus on worship knowing that your little ones are in a safe, nurturing environment.

An option for children ages 3 to 4th grade is to participate in the first part of worship service with their family, and then go to a program called “Sprouts” after the Children’s Sermon.

10:00 am Education Hour

We are passionate about challenging you to grow in your relationship with God and stretch your thinking and understanding around a wide variety of issues. We strive to offer a wide range of adult education opportunities that appeal to people with diverse faith experiences and perspectives. Classes are also offered for children and youth of all ages. Sunday Morning Fellowship

Step into the Parlor between services for a hot cup of coffee or tea. Each month, a different group hosts the fellowship hour. Stop by… we would love to meet you!

Our Congregation

On a typical Sunday, about 275 people attend worship at BUMC. Some of us have attended here for many years and some are brand new. We come from all walks of life, different political perspectives and many denominational and religious backgrounds. Despite our diversity, we are committed to the belief that we all belong together in community!

Don’t worry about what you’re wearing on a Sunday morning. Many of us dress up a bit, but you’ll see jeans and casual attire too. You don’t need a suit to worship with us!

The Church Building and Accessibility

Our Sanctuary is located on the second floor of the church. If you park on Stadium Drive, out by the gazebo, and enter through the main doors, you’ll be right there! Our primary parking lot is located on the lowest level, so you may find yourself taking the stairs. A small elevator is located at the west end of the building for those with mobility needs. Parking Lot greeters are also on hand during the winter months to help you find your way and to assist you in crossing the parking lot during snowy and icy months. Restrooms are located on each floor and most are handicap accessible. Wheelchairs are available for use upon request.

Ushers and Greeters

Volunteers are on hand every Sunday morning to welcome you and to answer any questions you may have. Look for the folks wearing name tags with big red ribbons. They will help you find your way.

Visitors

We’re excited to get to know you, and we don’t want to scare you away. We won’t make you stand up in a room full of strangers and introduce yourself. We won’t single you out during worship. We will offer you a Welcome Bag, which includes information about the church, a mug and other goodies. If you’d like one, ask an usher or greeter. And if you’d like more information, a call, a visit, or to subscribe to our newsletter, fill out a Visitor Card (available in the pews) and we’ll follow up on your request.
